Our take (including the part that annoys us)
The card is genuinely good. At 1440p with the settings turned up it delivers the frame rates a high-refresh monitor needs, and the 16GB of memory matters more than people expect — eight-gigabyte cards are already running out of memory in current titles at high textures, which shows up as sudden stutter rather than a lower average frame rate. Sixteen gigabytes is the number that makes this card age well.
Now the part that annoys us. This card launched at $749. It sells for around $1,170 today. That is not a retailer marking up a scarce item — that is where the market has settled. Graphics cards, memory and storage have all been pulled upward by datacentre and AI demand, and gamers are competing for the same silicon. When AMD is the better buy, and we mean it. The Radeon RX 9070 XT is within a few percent of this card at 1440p in pure rasterised performance, and after driver updates it has closed further.
