Desktop & PC Repair in York, PA

Tower won't boot, throwing blue screens, or just crawling? Drop the PC at our shop on Carlisle Rd and we'll figure out what's actually wrong.

A desktop computer is one of those things you don't really think about until it stops working — and then suddenly nothing in your day fits together. York Computer Repair is the walk-in PC shop at 2069 Carlisle Rd, York, PA 17408. We service Windows desktops and custom-built PCs from HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI, iBUYPOWER, CyberPower, and one-off builder rigs that someone's brother-in-law put together in 2017. Bring just the tower — keyboard, mouse, and monitor stay home — and we'll handle the rest.

Desktops fail differently than laptops. They run for years on dust, electricity, and luck, until one day a power supply quietly drops dead, a stick of RAM throws an error, a Windows update corrupts the boot sector, or the GPU starts artifacting. Most of these failures look identical from the outside ("it just won't turn on"), so a real diagnosis matters — guessing parts gets expensive fast. Our technicians have been doing this long enough to recognize the symptom patterns and isolate the actual culprit on the bench, not by trial and error in your living room.

What We Repair

If it's a Windows desktop, tower, or custom build, we work on it. The most common jobs that come through the front door at our York, PA shop:

Heads-up: We service Windows desktops and PCs only. We do not repair Apple iMacs, Mac Pros, or Microsoft Surface Studio devices. If you're not sure what you have, give us a quick call before driving over.

How a Desktop Repair Works at Our Shop

The process is the same whether you're dropping off a family PC or a six-fan gaming rig. You walk in (or call ahead — either is fine), we ask a few questions about what the machine is doing, and we accept the unit. Just bring the tower itself; you don't need to lug the monitor and cables along. Once it's on the bench we run a hands-on diagnostic, then call or message you with the actual problem and what it would cost to fix. No paid work begins without your okay.

Our diagnostic fee is a flat $39.99 for standard desktops and $99 for gaming PCs — the higher rate covers the extra time required to test high-end CPUs, discrete GPUs, custom liquid cooling loops, and overclocked configurations. The diagnostic fee applies toward the repair if you choose to move forward. We don't offer "free diagnostics," because in our experience that phrase usually means costs are hidden somewhere else, and we'd rather just be honest with you about pricing up front.

Most desktop repairs are finished in 1–3 business days. Simple jobs like a fresh Windows install, a virus cleanup, a power supply swap, or a RAM/SSD upgrade are often same-day. If a repair needs a part shipped from out of state — say, a specific GPU or a less common motherboard — you'll know on day one, not a week into waiting.

Why Locals Choose York Computer Repair

Our shop sits along Carlisle Road, an easy drive from anywhere in York, Shiloh, Spring Garden, West York, Manchester, Dover, East York, Red Lion, and Spring Grove. We're locals serving locals, which means real conversations and plain English — no scary "send it to corporate" forms, no upselling you on a repair that doesn't make sense. We've seen the cycle a hundred times: someone takes a desktop to a chain store, walks out with a "tune-up" they didn't need, and the original problem comes right back. We'd rather just fix the actual issue the first time.

We're also straightforward about PCs that aren't worth fixing. A 10-year-old budget tower with a dead motherboard isn't economical to repair, and we'll say so. If that's where you're at, we'll help you think through a replacement and migrate your data over. No upsell, no pressure — just the truth, from a shop that has to live in this community long term.
