A computer off the shelf is built to hit a price tag. Somewhere inside it, a corner was cut to get there — a weak power supply, a slow drive, a case with nowhere for the heat to go. A custom PC build works the other way around. You tell us what you want the machine to do, and every part is picked for that job. Nothing in the case is there by accident, and you’re not paying for things you’ll never use.
York Computer Repair builds custom-built computers and gaming rigs right here in our walk-in shop at 2069 Carlisle Rd, York, PA 17408. The same technicians who fix broken PCs all week are the ones putting yours together — so we already know which parts come back to the bench and which ones just keep running.
Custom PC builds for: York, Shiloh, Dover, West York, Spring Garden, East York, Manchester Township, and surrounding York County, PA.
What We Build
Custom gaming PCs. This is the build most people ask for. The right graphics card depends on the games you play and the monitor you play them on, so that’s where we start. Then we match the processor, memory, and power supply to it, and make sure the case moves enough air to keep everything cool through a long session. All-in-one liquid coolers and RGB lighting are no problem. We’d rather hand you a rig that never surprises you than one that’s a hair faster on a chart, so every build is set up to be stable first.
Video editing and creative PCs. Editing video, working with big photo libraries, streaming, or recording music leans on different parts than gaming does — more processor cores, more memory, and fast storage with room to grow. We ask which programs you use and how big your projects get, then build around that.
Home and office PCs. Not every custom build glows. A quiet, dependable desktop for email, schoolwork, bookkeeping, or running a small office is one of the most useful machines we put together. It starts quickly, stays out of your way, and is easy to upgrade down the road instead of replace.

How a Custom Build Works at Our Shop
1. We talk. Walk in or call 717-739-9675 and tell us what the PC is for and what you’d like to spend. Bring a wish list if you have one — a game you want to run well, a program that crawls on your current computer, a case you like the look of.
2. You get a parts list and a written quote. We put together a list of parts that work together and fit your budget, and we explain why each one is on it. You see the full cost — parts and labor — before anything is ordered. Want to swap something or trim the total? We adjust it until you’re happy.
3. We build it. Once you give the okay, the parts are ordered and the build happens on our bench. That means careful assembly, the right amount of thermal paste, fans pointed the right way, and cables routed neatly so air can move and the next upgrade is easy.
4. We set it up and test it. Windows goes on, updates and drivers get installed, and the PC is stress-tested before we call you.
5. You pick it up ready to use. We walk you through what’s inside and what we did. Plug it in at home and go.
Parts Chosen to Fit Your Budget
The budget is yours to set, and we take it seriously. A good build puts the money where you’ll feel it and saves it where you won’t. For a gaming PC that usually means the graphics card gets the biggest share. For an editing machine it’s the processor and memory. For an office PC it’s a fast drive and parts that last.
There are also a few places we won’t cut, because we see what happens when someone does. A bargain power supply can take other parts with it when it fails. A case with poor airflow cooks everything inside it. We’ll tell you plainly when a cheaper part is fine and when it’s a mistake. And if you already own parts worth keeping — a case, a drive, a graphics card — tell us, and we’ll let you know honestly whether they belong in the new build.
Because every build is different, we don’t post build prices. You get a written quote for your exact parts list before you commit to anything.
Windows Setup and Testing Before Pickup
Putting the parts together is only half the job. A new build isn’t finished until it has been set up and proven. Before any custom PC leaves our shop:
- ✓ Windows 11 installed and fully updated
- ✓ Motherboard & graphics drivers installed
- ✓ Memory and storage tested
- ✓ Stress test under heavy load
- ✓ Temperatures and fan speeds checked
- ✓ Performance check before pickup
A part that’s going to fail usually fails early. We would much rather catch it on our bench than have you find it the first weekend at home. If you’re replacing an older Windows computer, bring it along — we can move your files over to the new PC so nothing gets left behind.
Already Have the Parts?
If you’ve bought the parts but don’t want to risk bending a pin or wiring something wrong, bring the boxes in. We’ll assemble the PC cleanly, install Windows, update the drivers, and stress-test it before you take it home. Still shopping? Call us before you order anything. We’ll tell you whether the parts you’re looking at work together — there’s no charge for a quick parts list review.
Heads-up: We build Windows desktop PCs only. Sealed all-in-one (AIO) liquid coolers are fine, but we do not build or service custom water-cooling loops (open-loop, hardline, or soft-tube builds).

Custom PC Build FAQs
How much does a custom PC build cost? +
It depends on the parts, and the parts depend on what you want the PC to do. That’s why we don’t post build prices. Tell us your budget and we’ll put together a parts list that fits it, then give you a written quote covering parts and labor before anything is ordered.
Do you build custom gaming PCs? +
Yes. Gaming rigs are the build we’re asked for most. We match the graphics card to the games you play and the monitor you use, then build the rest of the PC around it. All-in-one liquid coolers and RGB lighting are fine. We do not build custom water-cooling loops.
Can I bring my own parts? +
Yes. Bring the parts in and we’ll assemble the PC, install Windows, update the drivers, and stress-test it. If you haven’t ordered yet, call 717-739-9675 first — we’ll check that your parts work together, at no charge for a quick parts list review.
How long does a custom build take? +
Most of the wait is for parts to arrive. Once everything is in the shop, we build, set up, and test the PC, then call you for pickup. We give you a realistic timeline along with your quote.
Does the PC come with Windows installed? +
Yes. Every build leaves with Windows 11 installed and updated, drivers in place, and a stress test behind it. We build Windows PCs only.
Can you upgrade my current PC instead of building a new one? +
Often, yes. If your current Windows PC has good bones, an upgrade can be the smarter spend. That starts with a diagnostic — $39.99 for standard computers, $99 for gaming PCs — so we know exactly what you have. The diagnostic fee is separate from the cost of any upgrade or repair, and we quote that work before we do it.
Do you build PCs for customers in Shiloh, Dover, and West York? +
Yes. Customers come in from Shiloh, Dover, West York, Spring Garden, Manchester, East York, and the rest of York County, PA. Our shop at 2069 Carlisle Rd is easy to reach from most of the county, with parking right at the door.
