Find Your Computer Match · ~60 Seconds

What Should You Buy?

Answer three quick questions about how you'll use it. We'll match you to the right kind of Windows machine and the brands we work with. Every computer we sell is handpicked by our staff for solid RAM, storage, and processing — no slowdown surprises down the road.

Step 1 of 3 — What will you mostly use it for?

Pick the one closest to what you'll be doing the most. If two apply, pick the more demanding one.

Step 2 of 3 — What form factor do you prefer?

Each one has trade-offs — if you're not sure, that's a valid answer and we'll recommend the best fit for your use.

Step 3 of 3 — What level of performance do you need?

Don't worry about exact dollar amounts — we'll line up real numbers at the counter. This question is just so we recommend the right tier of machine.

Buying a new computer should not feel like a guessing game. York Computer Repair is the walk-in computer shop at 2069 Carlisle Rd, York, PA 17408, and we sell brand-new Windows laptops, desktops, all-in-ones, and gaming PCs alongside our repair work. Because we fix computers all day, we know which models hold up, which run hot, which keyboards die early, and which are worth the money. That perspective is what you actually want from the person selling you a machine — not a quota.

We're a small York County shop, not a big box store. Our advice is honest and tailored to what you'll actually do with the computer — whether that's browsing the web, running a small business, editing video, or playing the latest games at high frame rates. We stock common configurations across all four categories below, and we can order specific models if you have something particular in mind. Either way, every machine goes home set up and ready: Windows updated, antivirus installed, accounts configured, and (if you bring it in) data transferred from your old computer.

What We Sell

💻

Windows Laptops

From everyday browsing-and-email machines to business-class laptops and creator-tier portables. HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, and more.

🖥

Windows Desktops

Small-form-factor towers, full ATX desktops, and business-class workstations. Sold with or without a monitor — whatever you actually need.

📽

All-in-Ones

Computer-in-the-monitor designs — clean desk setup, one cable. 22-, 24-, and 27-inch screen options across the major Windows brands.

🎮

Gaming PCs

Gaming laptops and gaming desktops — ASUS ROG, MSI, Razer, Alienware, Lenovo Legion, HP Omen. Also custom builds spec'd in-shop.

Heads-up: We sell Windows PCs and laptops only. We don't carry Apple products, Chromebooks, or Android tablets. If you've decided you want one of those, an Apple Store, Best Buy, or the manufacturer's website are your best bet.

Brands We Carry

We carry the brands we trust to hold up. The exact lineup in the shop rotates with stock, but these are our regulars:

Dell
HP
Lenovo
ASUS
iBUYPOWER (gaming)
Custom Builds (in-shop)

If you have a specific model in mind, call us first at 717-739-9675 and we'll let you know whether it's in stock, what we can order, and what the realistic timeline looks like. Screen sizes we carry: 14″, 15.6″, and 17.3″ laptops · 24″ and 27″ all-in-ones.

Handpicked, Not Bargain-Bin

Every computer we stock is handpicked by our staff for enough RAM, enough storage, and a processor that actually fits the price tier. That sounds obvious, but it's the part most retailers get wrong. You can walk into a big-box store or a Walmart and buy a brand-new $300 laptop with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage — and you'll be disappointed inside of six months when it can barely run Windows updates, let alone the software you actually want to use. Cheap computers are a trap. Our entry-level new machines start at $599, and they're spec'd to still feel responsive years from now, not just on day one.

How Buying From Us Works

There's no high-pressure sales pitch. You walk in, tell us what you'll use the computer for and roughly what you want to spend, and we show you the options that actually fit. If two machines are close, we'll tell you the trade-offs straight. If a lower-priced laptop is the right answer for you, that's what we'll point at — we don't try to talk you into a more expensive one because the margin is better.

Once you pick something, the machine goes through our standard new-computer setup before you take it home — Windows updates applied, manufacturer bloatware stripped down, legitimate antivirus installed and activated, your Microsoft account configured (or not, your call), and a quick walkthrough of how to find what you need.

Data Transfer From Your Old Computer

Bring in your old computer (or its hard drive) and we'll move everything over before you take the new one home. You've got two options:

Either way, you don't lose your stuff and you don't spend a weekend reinstalling programs and digging through old emails to remember which password went with which website.

1-Year In-Shop Warranty (Parts & Labor)

Every new computer we sell comes with a 1-year parts & labor warranty that we fulfill right in our shop — not via a 1-800 number, not by shipping your computer across the country for three weeks. If something goes wrong in the first year, you bring it back to us. We diagnose it on-site, repair it on-site whenever the parts are something we can source ourselves, and only escalate to the manufacturer if it's truly something we can't handle in-shop. You don't lose your machine for weeks, and you talk to the same people who sold it to you.

Why Buy Locally Instead of Online?

The biggest reason: setup and support are the hardest part of a new computer, and they're the part Amazon and Best Buy don't really do well. A new Windows machine out of the box is loaded with manufacturer bloatware, half-finished updates, trial software begging for credit cards, and Microsoft accounts the average person finds intimidating. We strip that down to a clean, working machine before you take it home — and we're a short drive away when you have a question two weeks later.

The second reason: honest specs. The same brand sells five laptops that look almost identical at five different prices, and the difference between them really matters depending on how you'll use the machine. Online, you're left to figure out which one is the trap. In our shop, we'll tell you which is the value pick, which is the upsell trap, and which is genuinely the better long-term buy. Sometimes that's the cheaper option. Sometimes it isn't. We just tell you which.

The third reason: we already know your machine inside-out. We're a repair shop. When something goes wrong — whether it's in the warranty window or two years later — we're the people you bring it back to. Because we sold it to you, we know exactly what's in it, what its weak points are, and what's worth fixing vs. replacing.

Computer Sales FAQs

Do you sell used or refurbished computers? +

No — we only sell brand-new Windows machines. Used and refurbished computers carry too many unknowns (battery wear, lingering wear-and-tear, prior owner accounts, sometimes hidden water damage) for us to put our name behind. If a brand-new budget laptop fits what you need, we'll show you one of those. If you want serious performance, we'll show you mid- and high-end new options.

Do you sell Apple products, MacBooks, or iPads? +

No — we're a Windows-only shop. For Apple products, an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Reseller is the right place. The nearest Apple Store to York is at Park City Center in Lancaster, PA. We also don't sell Chromebooks (ChromeOS) or Android tablets.

Can you order a specific model if you don't have it in stock? +

Yes — if you have a specific make and model in mind, give us a call at 717-739-9675 or stop by. We can usually order a specific configuration in within a few business days through our distributor relationships. Custom-spec gaming and workstation builds we assemble in-shop.

Will you set up the new computer before I take it home? +

Yes — that's the standard with us. Every new machine goes through a setup before pickup: Windows updates applied, manufacturer bloatware stripped down, legitimate antivirus installed and activated, your Microsoft account set up (or not, your call), and a quick walkthrough of what's where. It's usually done the same day, sometimes overnight depending on update size.

Can you transfer data from my old computer? +

Yes — two options. File transfer: we move your documents, photos, browser bookmarks, saved passwords, and email setup to the new machine during setup. Full clone + Windows 11 upgrade: we make an exact replica of your old computer on the new one — same files, same programs, same settings — then upgrade it to Windows 11. Either way, you don't lose your stuff and you don't spend a weekend reinstalling everything.

How much should I expect to spend on a new computer? +

Our brand-new Windows machines start at $599. Where you land beyond that depends on what you'll do with it — everyday browsing and office work stays at the lower end, while creative work, gaming, and specialized professional software push higher. The interactive recommender at the top of this page narrows it down based on how you'll use it, and we'll talk through exact options at the counter.

Do new computers come with a warranty? +

Yes — every new computer we sell comes with a 1-year parts & labor warranty that we fulfill right in our shop. If something goes wrong in the first year, you bring it back to us. We diagnose it on-site, repair it on-site whenever we can, and only escalate to the manufacturer if it's truly something we can't handle in-shop. You don't lose your machine for weeks, and you talk to the same people who sold it to you. The manufacturer's own warranty still applies on top of ours.

Do you build custom gaming PCs or workstations? +

Yes — we build custom PCs in-shop for gaming and for specialized professional workloads (CAD, engineering, software development, 3D rendering). You can supply your own parts or we'll source them. Every custom build gets Windows installed, drivers updated, cable management done properly, and a stress test before pickup. See our custom builds section for more on that.

Do you serve Shiloh, Dover, and the rest of York County? +

Yes — customers regularly drive in from Shiloh, Dover, Spring Garden, West York, Manchester, East York, Red Lion, Spring Grove, Hanover, and the rest of York County, PA. Carlisle Road is easy to reach from most of the county, and we're open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

“I am 78 years old and not tech-savvy, and after trying to fix my laptop myself, I made things worse. I took it to York Computer Repair and am so glad I did. Nate was wonderful, kind, patient and never made me feel stupid. The next morning he called me with a clear diagnosis and exact cost. He fixed it that same morning. I am so excited how great it works. No wonder they have the best reviews in York. I highly recommend them!”

Google Review

“We bought our laptop from York Computer on Carlisle Road and signed up for monthly service so they would monitor everything and handle any updates or issues. They have done an outstanding job and are always available for any questions or concerns from this ‘not tech savvy’ client. In the past we had bought from a department-type store — the experience was definitely not the same. Check them out.”

— Jean R.

Google Review

“I have nothing but great words for this company. All those I’ve talked and worked with have been very courteous and actually knew what was wrong — and explained the problem in a way I could understand. They are the only place where I would trust what they said about my computer.”
